COVID-19 - What to do
if you are a close contact or test positive for COVID-19 Summary of HSE
guidelines (as per 24/01/2022) | ||
Situation | Scenarios | Action |
Asymptomatic close contact of
person with COVID-19 | 1) Had COVID-19 since December
1st 2021 | · Not required to restrict movements or do testing
unless become symptomatic. |
2) 7 days post booster
vaccine dose OR completed primary vaccination schedule AND had
COVID-19 within the last 3 months | · Not required to restrict movements. · Wear an FFP2 mask or medical grade mask (surgical
mask) for 10 full days. · Perform three antigen tests over 7 days. | |
3) As no. 2 above but if
it is not feasible for your close contact to self-isolate (i.e. a
child) | · Not required to restrict movements. · Wear an FFP2 mask or medical grade (surgical) mask
for 14 full days · Perform 6 antigen tests over 14 days | |
4) Asymptomatic close
contacts who have either; NOT received their booster
vaccine OR NOT had COVID-19 within the last
3 months | · Restrict movements for a full 7 full days. · Wear an FFP2 mask or medical grade mask (surgical
mask) for 10 full days. · Perform three antigen tests over 7 days. | |
5) As no. 4 above but it
is not feasible for your close contact to self-isolate (i.e. a child) | · Restrict movements for 14 full days · Wear an FFP2 mask or medical grade mask (surgical

Symptoms of COVID-19 | | · Self -isolate and get tested |
Positive COVID-19 (PCR or
antigen) | | · Self-isolate for 7 full days from date of symptom
onset, or if asymptomatic from the date of positive test result |
Symptoms of COVID-19 and
negative test (PCR or antigen) and NOT a close contact. | | · Restrict movements at home until 48 hours after
your symptoms have substantially or fully resolved |
